Exalt Strings began during a unique season in the life of Ormond Anglican Church, where a remarkable number of string players were part of the congregation. What started with individual musicians serving in worship soon became a growing ensemble of passionate violin, viola, cello and double bass players. From the very first rehearsal, it was clear that these talented musicians were meant to play together as an orchestra. At the outset, the group was known as Ormond Anglican Strings, but it soon became more than just a musical group — it became a blessing to others through increased music-making in the community.
Rooted in worship, Exalt Strings is now an orchestra with a clear purpose: to lift high the name of God through beautiful string music. The name reflects this mission. Whether leading worship, performing concerts, or engaging with the wider community, Exalt Strings is a testament to how God brings people together through music.
Today, with Ormond Anglican Church as its home base, Exalt Strings includes and welcomes musicians from both the church and the broader community who share a love for playing and sharing music. Their repertoire is uniquely arranged to showcase strings with piano and classical guitar and blends a variety of styles, from Baroque, Classical, Swing and Folk music to Contemporary worship. Inspired by Psalm 33, they dedicate themselves to blessing others and uplifting listeners through their music.
Exalt Strings includes experienced string teachers and musicians who mentor and encourage advancing players, offering them opportunities to perform solos accompanied by a full string orchestra. They regularly play for weddings, special celebrations, and church services, enriching worship through orchestral music. Committed to giving back, Exalt Strings also supports Compassion Australia through an annual concert that uses music to raise awareness and funds. You can also hear them perform as a string quartet each month under the dome at the Block Arcade in Melbourne, bringing the joy of live music to the heart of the city.
